New Family Justice Center satellite office in the works
Following the murder of a well-known Southtowns woman, a satellite office of the Family Justice Center was opened in the heart of Orchard Park. It's been less than a year, and the center has already helped dozens of people. So many, in fact, that another satellite office is in the works. YNN's Katie Morse tells us more about the current office, and where a new one could be going.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — It looks like just another house on busy South Buffalo Street in Orchard Park, but one refurbished home has become a safe haven for women and men suffering from domestic abuse.
The Southtowns Family Center was created after death of Aasiya Hassan, who was killed by her husband, Muzzamil Hassan. The brutal murder shocked those knew Hassan well.
"Super smart, everybody loved her. People were devastated and horrified over her death, and vowed to do something about it. This is a response," said Mary Travers Murphy, the executive director of the Family Justice Center.
Travers Murphy says the satellite office was placed in the Southtowns so people who wouldn't normally come downtown to the Family Justice Center could have access.
Domestic violence victims can come to the center to talk, and learn about services. Since it opened last February 14th, more than eight dozen people have been helped.
"I am surprised by the number of clients, but word is getting out there that it's confidential, and that they're going to take great care of you, and you are going to be safe," said Travers Murphy.
Now, the Family Justice Center is hoping to expand services by creating another satellite office.
"We're moving forward with the Northtowns. The template for the Northtowns Family Justice Center satellite will be exactly what happened in the Southtowns. The community will dictate," said Travers Murphy.
The Southtowns facility was completed in about seven months, with help from the community.
Talks are in place to find an easily accessible location, likely in the Village of Williamsville, for the proposed Northtowns Office.
