BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mercy Hospital has launched a new obstetrical program to enhance safety for women and babies.

The hospital held a press conference Tuesday to announce the MORE OB program, which stands for Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently.

Mercy and Sisters of Charity hospitals were among five hospitals statewide to serve as demonstration sites for the program.

Hospital officials say the goal of MORE OB is to put patient safety first.

"It's going to teach us to work as a team with physicians, nursing staff and ancillary staff to create an even safer environment than we already have," said Dr. Lynn Aronica of Mercy Hospital.

The program was funded in part through a grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation.
