BUFFALO, N.Y. — The John R. Oishei Children's Hospital fundraising campaign received a shot in the arm Wednesday. New Era Cap Company donated $2 million to establish a pavilion next to the hospital's lobby.
Hospital doctors say the pavilion will give patients and their families a place of solace and normalcy, and gives children a goal as a destination.
Child life specialists say the current hospital doesn't have a dedicated space for large groups of people to come together.
New Era leaders say the decision to help the project was an easy one.
"Our contribution to the hospital, we felt, was a natural fit because like New Era, the hospital prides themselves for being leaders in innovation and are known worldwide for the work they do," said New Era CEO Christopher Koch.
The donation brings the fundraising campaign within $10 million of its $40 million goal.
