Lawmaker pushes to have post office named after fallen marine

HORNELL, N.Y. -- A southern tier community has plans to honor a local marine killed in Afghanistan.

19-year-old Lance Corporal Zachary Smith died two weeks ago when a roadside bomb exploded.

Congressman Eric Massa is pushing to have the Hornell Post Office named after the fallen marine.

Massa says renaming the post office would be a lasting tribute.

"I have been in contact with the family and sought their permission and they have granted us the opportunity to name at the federal level the post office in Hornell after Lance Corporal Zach Smith and it's going to be an incredibly emotional honor to do so," said Congressman Eric Massa.

Smith was a graduate of Hornell High School. He leaves behind a wife, his parents and siblings.
