NEW YORK -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says Governor Paterson should step down if reports by the New York Times are true.
Governor Paterson appointed Kirsten Gillibrand as New York's junior Senator about a year ago, but as allegations against Paterson continue to pile up, Gillibrand had some tough words.
Gillibrand spoke on our sister station New York 1, where she said she believes Paterson will resign if did indeed order aides to intervene in a domestic abuse case.
"The allegations that have been made are very, very serious. Attorney General Cuomo is going to run a thorough investigation I expect everyone in the administration to cooperate fully with that investigation. But if at the end of the day, if all of the allegations of the abuse of power are true, then the governor will be unable to govern and he will have to step down," Gillibrand said.
Gillibrand also said she feels like it's too soon at this point for the Governor to resign.
