Park Lane Catering set to return deposits soon

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills Linebacker Jon Corto and his bride-to-be Jen Lewinski spent months planning their June 12 wedding reception at the Statler Towers.

Lewinski said she booked the date at the venue in January 2009 through Park Lane Catering, just one month after the couple got engaged in st. Thomas. They even paid the $1,000 dollar deposit.

Soon after she began hearing that the building would be closed because potential buyers defaulted on its $1.3 million bid to buy the historic downtown landmark.

In an e-mail sent to YNN, Lewinski said she ignored the rumors about the potential closing of the Statler because her salesman told her: “he kept reassuring me time after time that everything was going to be fine and that the news was reporting inaccurate stories.”

Lewinski said once the building officially shut down in the beginning of January she was never contacted by anyone until January 22 when they said they would not be able to host the wedding.

Lewinski was devastated, telling YNN that she, “planned everything according to the style of the terrace ballroom… my dress, the flowers, everything.”

The couple was lucky enough to be able to find another venue but up until Monday afternoon was fighting with Park Lane Catering to get their deposit back.

In a phone conversation with her salesman Lewinski said she was told. “the contract does not specify a date as to when the deposit has to be returned, therefore, they are under no obligation to return the deposits by a certain date.”

YNN spoke with Molly Ford, the director of sales and operations at Park Lane Catering, on Monday. She said they would be setting a date this week as to when the refunds will be returned to customers.
