BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo’s Common Council honored a Buffalo native killed in a Washington D.C. metro crash.
Council members presented an "In Memoriam" plaque to the family of Jeanice McMillan Tuesday.
McMillan was operating a Metro Train in D.C. last June when it crashed into another train.
The National Transportation Safety Board held a hearing on the crash Tuesday and is expected to vote on its probable cause this week.
Betty McMillan, Jeanice’s mother said she hoped the hearing would give her some answers.
"That's all I really want to know is, is what really failed, you know to take my daughter away. That's what I'm really looking for to find out really what happened that day that shouldn't have happened," said McMillan.
Jeanice’s son, Jordan, said the recognition meant a lot, despite the fact that they no longer live in the city.
"Even though we didn’t live in Buffalo these past couple years, people still recognize my mother. She's from here so they still recognize her as a hero. It really means a lot to me," said McMillan.
Jeanice’s family described her as a happy person who loved her family and working for Metro.
