Buffalo nurses rally behind co-worker
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Nurses at ECMC held a rally Wednesday for a co-worker injured on the job last week.
Kelly McCain was injured last Wednesday after 22-year-old Terrance Caldwell, a patient at the hospital, charged at the nurse's station and assaulted her.
Police say the incident is not isolated and nurses are being assaulted on the job on a regular basis across the country.
Nurses like Ivy Rutledge said they are uniting in a stand to stop the violence.
"We wish her well, our prayers are with her. We want her to know that we are in full support. We are against violence, no one should come on the job and get hurt in any kind of way," said Rutledge.
Representatives from the New York State Nurses Association will be sitting down with ECMC officials in order to figure out how to avoid incidents like this in the future.
