WEST SENECA, N.Y. -- It's the start of the 158th apple season at the Mayer Brothers' Cider Mill in West Seneca and everything apple is on display. Co-owner Garrett Mayer says, "Our biggest movers are our donuts, apple cider donuts and apple pies, mixed with of course our apple cider."
The family owned business started back in 1852 when Jacob Mayer purchased the land in West Seneca. The business has since been handed down through five generations. Mayer Brothers operates all year long, but the fall is always the most anticipated part of the year. Mayer says, "It’s a real neat aspect of our business that only happens in the fall time. For me it's exciting and for everyone who's involved and our customers."
Mayer Brothers use all locally grown apples and bake all of the tasty treats in house. The Cider Mill store is also listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites and the Mayor Brothers hope to keep it that way for a long time to come.
The store also has a seasonal craft section and in the coming weeks it will add a local produce section. The mill is open until Thanksgiving.
