BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A fallen Buffalo firefighter was honored at the Puerto Rican flag rising in Downtown Buffalo Thursday afternoon.
The mother of Firefighter Jonathan Croom, who was killed battling a fire last summer raised the American flag during the ceremony in front of Buffalo city hall.
The flag raising kicks off of the Eight Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. The parade kicks off Saturday September 11.
“This year we decided to continue and persevere as our country has always done in time of adverse conditions and celebrate it on September 11th in a tribute to our country,” said WNY Puerto Rican Day Parade President Charles Torres.
Firefighter Croom will posthumously serve as the grand marshal of the parade.
The theme of this year's parade is "Recordando Nuestros Heroes" or "Remembering Our Heroes."
