BUFFALO, N.Y. — Three ice rinks owned by the city of Buffalo are now under new management, including the Buffalo Sabres Foundation.
The foundation will work with Hasek's Heroes to run Cazenovia and Riverside ice rinks, while North Buffalo Bison Hockey Association will take over Lafayette ice rink.
All three rinks are getting facilities upgrades as part of the deal. The city is spending almost a million dollars at Lafayette, with the Sabres Foundation donating an extra $100,000 at its two facilities.
"Owning an NHL team is a great platform to help the community that surrounds, and we are very, very focused on that,” said Cliff Benson, a senior advisor with the Sabres. “Today is a great step forward in realizing some of the dreams that we have for that."
As part of the new contracts, all three rinks will also offer public skating hours at least five days a week.
