BUFFALO, N.Y. — The candidates for Erie County Clerk sounded off at a candidates' forum Wednesday night.
Maria Whyte and Chris Jacobs each had a chance to make their case to voters and answer questions from the audience at the Frank Merriweather Library.
They're running for the position left open by Kathy Hochul after she was elected to the House of Representatives earlier this year.
Both Whyte and Jacobs think their experience best qualifies them for the position.
"I believe my experience as both a small business owner and as an attorney and someone who's been involved in government at various levels, I think my skillsets are uniquely suited to the diverse roles and responsibilities of the Clerk's Office,” said Jacobs, (R).
"I think in order to run the Clerk's Office you have to have the right combination of three things: government experience, leadership experience, and management experience, and I think I have the right mix of all three of those things,” said Whyte, (D).
Also at the forum Wednesday night were the candidates for Erie County Family Court Judge, Sharon Lovallo and Patricia Maxwell.
This was the first of three candidate forums.
