KENMORE, N.Y. - It was always a childhood dream of one Kenmore resident - Christmas lights, thousands of them covering his two-story home on Knowlton Avenue.
Eric Nagel gets in the Christmas spirit as early as the summer when selecting his music choice for the spectacle of lights on his front lawn.
Nagel programs his lights to synchronize to about six Christmas songs that loop every half an hour, and those driving by can tune their radios to 107.3 to watch the full show.
This is the third year Nagel put up his elaborate decorations. He says he has more than six thousand lights up on his house.
Nagel says it's something the entire community looks forward to, which he says always makes him want to continue carrying out his childhood dream.
"Every year, once I put it together and everything's running, I'm like, I don't know if I'm going to do it next year. It's a lot of work - in January taking it all down - but, then I talk to someone, or someone thanks me,” said Nagel. “I was at my kids' school the other day and this parent walked up (to me) and said, 'You're the one with the lights; I just wanted to say thank you.' Hearing that is the reason that I do it."
And if you're wondering how much his electric bill is, Nagel says because most of his lights are LED, it only costs him about $30 for the month - a small price to pay for months of work.
