BUFFALO, N.Y. — The State Department of Financial Services has fined a Buffalo-based not-for-profit insurer for failing to explain rights and benefits to consumers.
The Department of Financial Services announced that HealthNow New York Incorporated has been fined $700,000.
The insurance company was cited for around 164,000 instances of failing to provide state-required explanation of benefit statements.
HealthNow also failed to provide written acknowledgement of grievances with 15 business days as required by law, among several additional violations.
The Department of Financial Services says HealthNow has reached a settlement to revise procedures to prevent violations from happening again.
