BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Sabres management team brief the media on final preparations to start the season during a press conference Saturday.

Owner Terry Pegula announced the team has extended the contract of general manager Darcy Regier. Terms of the deal weren't discussed.

But management did say just 12'000 tickets remain for the entire season. Pegula said that support from fans means a lot to him, especially since he can still remember watching the last lockout as only a spectator.

"I can understand if some fans are extremely upset because I was one of them at one time, so we have to do our best to win those people back," he said.

Management said it feels added pressure to return the Sabres to the playoffs this season. The Sabres start their season at 12:30 p.m. Sunday against the Flyers.
