TONAWANDA, N.Y. -- The world’s largest synchronized swimming competition is coming to Western New York this summer. The Town of Tonawanda will host the 2010 eSychro Age group championships at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Members of the Tonawanda Aquettes took to the pool Tuesday to demonstrate what guest can expect to see at the contests. The Aquettes are hosting the competition from June 25th to July 3rd.
1,200 swimmers ages 11 to 19 are expected come to the area. More than 300 volunteers are expected to help with the event.
The visitors that come to our area as a result of competition like this will eat in our area restaurants and stay in our hotels and enjoy all of the assets that our community has to offer,” said Buffalo Niagara Convention And Visitors Bureau Sales Vice President Michael Even.
“I always go to nationals and I travel across the country, and it’s so great to see what people around the country do and how they work their own routines on their own teams. It’s really cool to have them finally come here to our pool,” said Tonawanda Aquettes Swimmer Amy Brooks.
The final day of the competition will be called “Pink in the Pool.” Athletes, officials and fans will wear pink to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.
