POMFRET, N.Y. — A CSX railroad crossing in Northern Chautauqua County has finally been repaired after years of dangerous malfunctions.

CSX installed new equipment this past weekend at the Van Buren Rd. railroad crossing in Pomfret.

In October 2009, Robin Putnam-Cordovano's 25-year-old son Zachary Nydahl and two of his friends, Sean O'Rourke and William Marquardt, both 24, died in an accident at the crossing. After that, she made a video documenting the malfunctioning safety gates.

"What prompted my investigation was the numerous people that told me about incidents that they encountered at the tracks after my son's death, so I wanted to pursue this so no one else would have to suffer the loss of a loved one like we have, like my family has endured," said Putnam-Cordovano.

After a review by the Federal Railroad Administration in December, the repairs were made.
