Investigators are still trying to determine what caused a fatal pedestrian struck accident in Orleans County just before 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Orleans County Sheriff Scott Hess said a man was walking on the side of Route 31 in Clarendon wearing dark clothes when was hit by a pickup truck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hess said the rural road was not lit and the man should have been walking on the other side of the road.
"He was out here walking in dark clothing on the side of the road with traffic. You're not supposed to do that. You're supposed to walk against traffic," said Orleans County Sheriff Scott Hess.
The man's body was taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification. He did not have an ID on him at the time of the crash.
It is not yet clear if any charges will be filed.
