Nathan Gerbe on offseason surgery and lockout

Nathan Gerbe on offseason surgery and lockout
The NHL has announced another round of cancellations. Now, the hope that we could have a Christmas Day start is out the window.

The league has canceled all games through December 30th. Labor negotiations are expected to continue at some point this week.

We had a chance to catch up with Nathan Gerbe at a Camp Good Days event on Sunday, as Gerbe brought some Christmas cheer to the Western New York youth.

In our conversation with him, the Sabres forward revealed that he underwent spinal surgery this offseason - after scoring 25 points in 62 games last year.

He's been using the extra time from the lockout to recover, and as far as solving the labor standoff - shared a few thoughts.

"Some of the problem is: tempers flare and it's like when you were a kid and you quit playing and didn't talk to the other person for a long time. I still do it when I lose games. I'd talk the importance of getting this game back and how important the game is. I know the owners care and I know the players side cares. At the end of the day, it's working out a fair deal for both sides. The passion is there from both sides and they've got to get it going. We're running out of time," Gerbe said.
