Following a day off, the Bills get back to work at St. John Fisher with another early morning practice on Friday. The quarterback battle well under way at this point, and will continue to be one of the key storylines throughout camp.
EJ Manuel and Kevin Kolb fighting for the starting role under center. Over the first four days of camp, the veteran Kolb has had his struggles while receiving most of the reps with the first team. The rookie, Manuel, on the other hand has steadily shown improvement adjusting to the NFL game, taking most of his reps with the second unit.
"He’s done a nice job," head coach Doug Marrone said. "He has been indecisive at times, there’s still some inconsistency there. You need to remember he’s still a developing quarterback. Today, he made a nice check and was able to throw or make a good decision and get the ball down. You’re seeing good signs about how he’s progressing. And then obviously, as coaches, we are striving for the perfect player."
"I feel a lot more comfortable," Manuel said. "I understand my protections. I've been going over that a lot during the offseason and also now with coach Hackett and just the overall playbook. I feel I have a better grasp of it than I did during OTAs."
