BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The area surrounding the Broadway market in Buffalo was spruced up Friday afternoon.
More than a dozen members of the Fillmore District Impact Team, CityCorps and members of Buffalo Common Councilman David Franczak's office participated in the cleanup event.
Volunteers trimmed bushes, cut weeds, swept sidewalks, and picked up litter on the streets surrounding the Broadway Market.
The initiative was the first of six area clean up events.
"We have a nice laundry list of projects that we can choose from at each site," CityCorps Program Director Nicholas Smith said. "So we want to get as much done, leverage our able bodies and able minded individuals that we get to come out from much as we can get out of them."
"One of the biggest problems is people that litter, which is ridiculous," Buffalo Common Councilman David Franczak. "Why would you soil your own nest?"
Next Friday, the volunteers will be cleaning up in Buffalo's old first ward neighborhood.
