ELMA, N.Y. -- Construction workers are putting together a home in Elma on a rainy day. The crews don't seem to mind the rain too much, especially since it's the last day of Fall and temperatures are hovering near 50 degrees. It's also rain, not snow that's falling to the ground. It's been a similar trend of the last two months.
James Marrano, Marrano Homes' V.P. of Operations said, "The weather's been outstanding. We can pour foundations in this weather. We're not delayed, and our customers aren't waiting so we can start the house. There have been no delays whatsoever."
In fact, Marrano says this month has been one of the best December in their history and sales are up more than 50% over last year.
Marrano said, "Normally the weather delays and the holidays, but this year we've seen a lot of activity."
Marrano is building 15 homes right now. Last year at this time they were building only 5 and that was all depending on the weather.
The construction season in Western New York has been extended by the very mild and nearly snowless end to fall.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, last month was the 6th warmest on record, dating back 141 years. There were 21 days in November when the high temperature reached 50 degrees or higher, tying a record.
