JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Jamestown Parks Department prepares to cut down a 40-foot Christmas tree Thursday morning as part of the annual tradition of decorating the downtown for the holidays.

The Colorado blue spruce was donated by the Jamestown Moose Lodge on 5th Street and will be erected on Tracy Plaza at City Hall. Once its up, workers in bucket trucks will hang over 2000 energy saving LEDs on it.

The tree will be lit at the beginning of the holiday parade scheduled for November 30th at 6:30 p.m.

"The parade is probably one of the biggest events that we do here in Jamestown. And the people and their families really look forward to it," said Lee Harkness, Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation.

The theme of this year's parade is A Tradition of Caring at Christmas.
