BUFFALO, N.Y. — "Seven months ago on this very day, we launched a campaign, a campaign called making room to save lives."

And Thursday, Roswell Park Cancer Institute President and CEO Donald Trump announced phase one of a $40 million campaign to build an 11-story clinical services center wrapped up with a $1.5 million donation from the New Era Cap Company.

"We know it's going to help our employees,” New Era CEO Christopher Koch said. “We know it's going to help our families and it's going to help so many people here in Western New York."

The donation was one of 430 made to the cancer center to help expand services including a new breast cancer and mammography center, chemo-infusion center and patient and family services.

Over the last five years, Roswell has seen a 40 percent increase in patients and the need for the center has grown.

"We finished the campaign more quickly than anticipated in times that are not easy, and I think it's just a wonderful tribute to the support of the community," Trump said.

An additional $10 million is needed for phase two of the project. Construction on the center is expected to begin in the spring.
