Sheriff's deputies believe the man, who was 88 years old, was cutting down trees on his property when one of them cracked higher up and fell on him. He died at the scene.

Family members tell deputies he was very active for his age.

"According to his family he was doing what he loved. He had a tractor back there. He cut down numerous trees over the past few weeks," said Sheriff James Voutour of Niagara County.

The man's name has not yet been released.
