AMHERST, NY--

The first "Hearts and Hands" fundraiser was held Friday at the Boulevard Mall to benefit the Women’s Military Support Network of Western New York.

Dozens of people were on hand to be part of a "Hearts and Hands" human circle that was filmed to raise awareness for the organization. Video of the chain was then posted to YouTube. Organizers say the event is a good way to educate people on ways to help returning female veterans.

Lieutenant Colonel Joan Tudini of the 914th Air Reserve Base said, "You feel very disconnected when you come back. So to be able to talk to somebody, especially somebody that's been in the service and understands, is very helpful to them".

Proceeds from the event will help provide supplies for a newly built Post Traumatic Stress Disorder clinic in Batavia.
