ALDEN -- Funeral arrangements have been made for a local soldier who was killed serving overseas.

27-year-old Brett Gornewicz of Alden died after his unit was attacked by enemy forces with an explosive device last weekend. Two other soldiers from New York were also killed in the attack.

Calling hours will be held from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Charles Meyer Funeral Home in Alden.

A funeral will be held Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John's Roman Catholic Church.

Gornewicz graduated from Buffalo State College with a degree in Industrial Technology. Before that, he graduated from Alden High School where he played baseball and football.
