NT murder case goes to grand jury

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The accused killer of 34-year-old Heather Rylowicz waived his right to a felony hearing during a court appearance Wednesday afternoon, moving the case to a grand jury.
Brian Lowry, 32, is charged with second degree murder after Rylowicz was found dead in her Lincoln Avenue home last Wednesday. Police say Rylowicz died as a result of combined blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
Lowry, who referred to Rylowicz as his girlfriend on his Facebook account, was arrested by Buffalo Police and turned over to North Tonawanda authorities Friday night.
The Michigan native pleaded not guilty to the charges but has had run-ins with the law before. According to AnnArbor.com, Lowry pleaded no contest to sexual misconduct in 1997 for having sex with a girl younger than 13. He later served three months for failing to register as a sex offender.
Lowry's case will now move to a grand jury in Lockport, though no date has been set. He's currently being held at the Niagara County Jail without bail.
His public defender tells YNN he's obviously upset over the situation but has been cooperative and that a possible psych evaluation has not been ruled out in the case.
