BUFFALO,N.Y. -- The city of Buffalo has a new Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Byron Brown announced the appointment of Buffalo-native Ellen Grant, Thursday.
She will direct and oversee city educational initiatives, such as 'Say Yes to Education', the Buffalo Promise Neighborhood, and public school safety and security programs.
Grant will act as Brown's liaison with the Buffalo Board of Education and local colleges and university. She will also be responsible for development at the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus.
"I am confident she will continue the progress my administration is making to expand and diversify Buffalo's economy," said Brown.
Grant served as the Erie County Commissioner of Public Health from 1988 to 2000. She succeeds Donna Brown who left the deputy mayor position in the summer of 2010.
Steven Casey continues as Deputy Mayor of Administration.
