MAYVILLE, N.Y. — New York State Commissioner of Education Dr. John King Junior paid a visit to the Chautauqua County School Boards Association Monday evening in Mayville.

King delivered a presentation on the state's education initiatives, including teacher evaluations, new common core standards and the feasibility of longer school days. He says these initiatives focus on preparing students for life after high school.

"Our chief focus in schools is to try and insure that our students graduate college and career ready. Ready to be successful at the next level and ready to be good citizens," King said.

King also discussed cost saving ideas like using BOCES to consolidate distance learning and creating regional high schools.
