BUFFALO, N.Y. — The HARBORcenter at the Webster Block is one step closer to reality as project officials presented the plan to members of the Buffalo Planning Board Monday.

Sabres Chief Development Officer Cliff Benson says the organization is on track for a March groundbreaking after soil testing and design work have all turned out fine.

HARBORcenter will include two ice rinks, which will be connected to the First Niagara Center by a sky bridge, a hotel, restaurant, retail space and parking.

Benson says many businesses are interested in occupying the facility, but team officials are not sure on how they'll go about choosing who will become a partner.

"I don't think we're overly concerned about partners. It's just a matter of how we want to develop it and who we want to develop it with," Benson said.

Benson says construction of everything but the hotel will be completed by September 2014 because teams typically book hockey rinks a year or more in advance.
