LOCKPORT, N.Y. -- Law enforcement agencies surrounded a home on Campbell Boulevard in Lockport after the Niagara County Sheriff says a woman was found shot in the face Wednesday morning - possibly by her husband, who was armed in their home with their three-year-old daughter.

"Obviously we were very concerned with the welfare of the child," said James Voutour, Niagara County Sheriff.

The Sheriff says 40-year-old Leanne Tucker had run from the house and was taken to ECMC.

The surrounding area was evacuated as law enforcement tried to contact her husband, 44-year-old Morris Tucker - but never had any success.

Voutour said, "We drove around the house with a bullhorn, asking the little girl to come out and come to the window and she eventually did and we waved her out, the team waved her out and she came running out to the SWAT truck."

The Sheriff says the girl's pediatrician is on their SWAT team so he was able to check her out immediately. He says she was completely unharmed, and was able to help police.

"We were able to use a robot to look inside, garner some intelligent information from a very bright three-year-old, and we sent an entry team in there and we did find a male deceased inside the house," said Voutour.

Voutour says he died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and they found a rifle near his body.

He says the little girl is now with family.

"She's doing great. She probably witnessed something very tragic, but she's doing well," said Voutour.

Leanne Tucker is listed in stable condition.
