BUFFALO, N.Y. — This week is National Influenza Immunization Week and Erie County is reminding residents to get their flu shots.

The County Health Commissioner says there are new flu strains this year and she expects to see more people experiencing serious flu related complications.

"Now is a perfect time to get immunized because again, we don't expect to see a lot of influenza in our community until the end of the month or the beginning of January so now is the perfect time to get immunized if you haven't already," said Dr. Gale Burstein.

Flu season can begin as early as October and last until May.
