BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation outlined its plan for the new Sabres complex Wednesday.

The $125 million project will be constructed on the Webster block downtown as part of the Canalside Improvement Project.

"Buffalo's new front door" will include two hockey rinks, a 200-room hotel and a 65-unit residential structure. The complex will also include up to two floors of restaurant and retail space for local businesses.

The ECHDC even hosted a forum with local architects to collect feedback on building design.

"Between the city of Buffalo and the Buffalo sabres, they recognized they had a great opportunity, great building with skating facilities and hotel facilities, retail facilities," said Thomas Dee, President of the ECHDC. "We'll have that on the edge of Canalside, just south of the Donovan Building on the Benders block."

Groundbreaking is scheduled for March 2013.
