BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is capping off its 150th anniversary celebration this week with the completion of the gallery's grand staircase reconstruction and the unveiling of a new work of art.

Gallery representatives announced Thursday the year-long restoration of the museum's circa 1905 grand staircase is finished. The fountain at the base of the stairs was also fixed and will flow when the weather warms. The stair's price-tag was nearly one million dollars.

"It's a wonderful restoration project. We had many great partners," said Leslie Zemsky, the President of the Gallery's Board of Directors. "We look forward to bring part of the growing tourism industry. I feel these stairs are a wonderful examples of how we're welcoming the community."

The gallery debuted "Universals Albright-Knox 150." The gallery commissioned the artwork for the anniversary and it was created with the help of 150 local people.

Gallery admission on Friday is free.
