Residents voiced their opposition to a proposed hotel in Amherst

AMHERST-- Residents voiced their opposition to a proposed hotel in Amherst at a community meeting Thursday night.

Residents discussed the proposed six story, 137 room Hyatt Place Hotel, which would be built behind the Lord Amherst Motel.

Many voiced concerns about traffic, noise, privacy and the height of the hotel.

One Amherst Town Councilman says he understands the residents' concerns.

"We need to look at where some of these large six story hotels show up," said Mark Manna, Amherst Town Councilmen. "They shouldn't just be showing up in people's backyards in Amherst."

Homeowners in the area also signed a petition against the hotel, which will be given to the Amherst Town Board.
