Lawmakers backing Community Charter
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two local leaders are urging the state department of education to keep a Buffalo charter school open.

School officials at Community Charter say test scores and academic performance have declined over the last few years, and the Board of Regents is not expected to renew the school's charter.

Senator Tim Kennedy and Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes are now asking state leaders to give the school a chance to rebound.

The Board of Regents is expected to make a decision by next week.

Community Charter serves more than 300 students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
