Judge's Order Allows Woman Convicted in Walmart Incident To Make Bail

Judge's Order Allows Woman Convicted in Walmart Incident To Make Bail
Less than a month after she was sentenced to five years in prison, a federal judge has signed the order allowing Jacquetta Simmons to be free on bail.

Simmons was convicted in August of punching a 70-year-old Walmart cashier last Christmas Eve.

According to Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman, the "stay of sentence" order does not mean that Simmons' prison sentence is thrown out. It only allows Simmons to be free on bail while her conviction and sentence are appealed. That process could take up to a year.

Friedman tells YNN that stayed sentences are rare, in his experience. He says he is disappointed with the judge's decision.
