EGGERTSVILLE, N.Y. — A local Episcopal church held a vigil for the victims of Friday's mass shooting.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Eggertsville, led by Pastor Barbara Price, invited congregations and groups from the area to pray for the people who died in Newtown, Connecticut.

Pastor Price says the idea for the vigil came to her while she was praying for those involved in the shooting, and that communities must stand together in troubled times.

"Solidarity at a time like this is essential. If we isolate, it just gets worse and the pain just gets worse. So this is a way to lighten the load by just being together. It doesn't make it be all better, but it's a comfort," Price said.

Others in the congregation say that prayer and remembrance is the best way to deal with Friday's shooting.
