BUFFALO, N.Y. — The preparations have begun for the 25th annual Buffalo Ball Drop to ring in the New Year. Event planners say this year's ball is bigger and better than ever.
An estimated 40,000 people turned out for last year's festivities.
Due to the ongoing NHL Lockout, it doesn't look like the Sabres will be playing that night for their "Tux and Pucks" event, which could cause attendance to be much lower than normal.
"We're still hoping to have a super large turnout but certainly the absence of the Sabres playing during that night could have an impact," said Buffalo mayor Byron Brown, (D).
Buffalo's ball drop is the second biggest in the country, just behind New York City's event.
