NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Dozens of dogs found homes for the holidays, thanks to the SPCA of Niagara.

The shelter wrapped up a special Monday during which adoption fees were waived.

The month long special helped to find homes for more than 70 dogs.

Since turning into a "no-kill" shelter, the SPCA has a surplus of animals ready to be adopted. SPCA officials note, however, giving a pet as a gift is not a good idea unless everyone involved is interested.

"People have different needs in their pets and so we strongly discourage giving of a gift unless the recipient has already met the gift and we know that both sides want it to happen," said Andrew Bell, Executive Director of the SPCA of Niagara.

The SPCA says it will do this type of special as need arises.
