BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo welcomed 46 new AmeriCorps volunteers Thursday morning.

The community service program received a grant of almost $700,000 from the New York State Commission on National and Community Service.

"I just feel that everyone should just get involved. We're a community, not just one person. So I feel the more people that get involved the better the place will be. And I just thought that it would be a next great step in volunteering and helping Buffalo," said Melanie Reimondo.

Throughout the year, Corps members help more than 20 local schools and community groups, tutoring kids, removing graffiti, and shoveling snow for senior and disabled citizens.
