JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Jamestown Public Schools Board will begin searching for a new superintendent following the Thursday morning retirement announcement from the current superintendent Deke Kathman.

Kathman has been an educator for 39 years. He has worked in the Jamestown School district for 26 years and has been the superintendent for the past five years.

He believes that he will be leaving the district in a strong position.

"Our kids need a great education. And to the extent that I've contributed to the quality programming and the right hires to do that job, I take great pride in that," Kathman said.

Kathman's retirement will begin at the end of this school year. He says he is looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren.
