NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Niagara Falls' new police chief was officially sworn into office Friday. Bryan DalPorto succeeds former police superintendent John Chella.

DalPorto says he looks forward to tackling violent crime and budget issues as he enters office. He says he'll focus on shifting manpower around within the force to put more patrols on the streets and will team up with community leaders to crack down on crime.

"We've always been a community oriented police department, and we expect that to continue. And we'll be focusing on that like we always have, working with the block clubs, working with MAD DADS, and we want to work with the community to address the issues of crime," DalPorto said.

DalPorto started his career in the U.S. Air Force and has been with the department for 15 years.
