NFTA meets to discuss land deal

We're still waiting to hear what the future will hold for the waterfront land owned by the NFTA. The Transportation Authority's Board of Commissioners met Tuesday to discuss the joint proposal from the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation and the City of Buffalo, the only offer received for the property. YNN's Katie Morse tells us what came out of that meeting.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Still no word on what the plan is for the waterfront land owned by the NFTA.

The Authority's Board of Commissioners met Tuesday to start talking about the proposal they received.

It's a joint venture by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation and the City of Buffalo to buy and develop the land.

Board members went into executive session, and wouldn't talk about details of the meeting. They did say they went over the details they'd need to create a contract with the groups to potentially sell the land.

"The staff has now got their parameters, got their marching order so to speak, so they'll convene a meeting with the entity as soon as possible to start the negotiations," explained NFTA Public Affairs Director C. Douglas Hartmayer.

The cost of the land has been an issue in the past. Congressman Brian Higgins has said he wants the NFTA to sell it for two dollars, since that's what it was purchased for. The Authority says it would have to be more than that, because of all the investments put into it.
