MINA, N.Y. — The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident where a delivery van driving in the Town of Mina was hit by what they believe is gunfire.

The Sheriff's Office says a projectile struck the van around 9:15 a.m. Thursday on I-86 around three miles east of the Findley Lake exit.

"He thought he had a mechanical problem, stopped and realized the side of the box of the truck had been struck," said Sheriff Joe Gerace of Chautauqua County.

They believe the projectile was accidentally shot from the rifle of a coyote hunter in the area.

No one was injured.

Anyone with any information on who may have been hunting in the area is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (716) 753-2131.
