NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Members of the Disabled American Veteran's Chapter 120 in Kenmore have seen the need is great for homeless and disabled veterans and they have been helping.
Chapter Commander Gerald Tidd says its a shame that some veterans are in need of the basic essentials: shelter, food, and warm clothes.
For the past two and a half years, the chapter has been collecting clothes, shoes, food, and personal care items.
The donations are distributed by the Western New York Veterans Housing Center and the Women's Wellness Center.
"They've done so much for us. This country is free because of them," said Commander Tidd. "For one reason or another, they're down on their luck. It's time we stand up and say thank you."
The chapter has reached its goal for winter coats; however it is looking for new men and women's underwear, socks, long johns, toiletries, and cash donations.
If you would like to donate, call Commander Tidd at (716) 310-2004.
