BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Signs went up over night Monday throughout the city of Buffalo - asking the question "Who Is Sergio?"
"I'm an individual who is truly passionate about the city of Buffalo and believes wholeheartedly that the city has an opportunity to change for the better," said Sergio Rodriguez.
The 32-year-old thinks he can help bring that change as mayor.
While he hasn't officially announced a campaign for the seat, he's using the "Who is Sergio?" initiative to help Buffalo residents get to know him.
"We are very passionate about the city and we do want to make a difference in the city and we do see an opportunity for us to improve in education and make improvements on the crime rate," said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is originally from the Dominican Republic, and came to Buffalo after serving in the Marine Corps for nearly five years out of high school.
He has a bachelors degree from D'Youville in Business Management and recently received his masters in Organizational Leadership from Medaille College, where he's currently employed as the coordinator of veterans and military affairs.
"I learned a lot in the Marine Corps, obviously, and so that kind of mindset is just, hey, you know, we see a problem, let's adapt and overcome and make a difference," said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez says he has experience working with local Republican committees and community organizations.
He says he knows people might question his experience at age 32, and as a Republican the odds are against him - but he thinks the city needs something different.
"I think what I can bring to the table is just a fresh approach, a new approach and something that it's going to be, it's going to transcend all the politics and all the Democrats versus Republicans," said Rodriguez.
And as for the countdown on his web site?
"Stay tuned. Certainly a countdown to something great," he said.
