Local Democrats Watch Historical Event Together
Here in Western New York, many watched the ceremonial swearing in on TV. YNN's Kate McGowan spoke with local Democrats, who held a watch party in Buffalo to celebrate.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- It's a moment in history that this crowd did not want to miss.
"I'm overwhelmed, I'm pleased, I feel blessed and I feel like there's no place like America," said Lula Gayles Herring, a Buffalo resident.
The Erie County Democratic Committee and Western New York residents gathered in downtown Buffalo to celebrate the start of President Obama's second term. Together, they watched his public swearing in.
"I think this gives us an opportunity to be together, like we would in Washington D.C. and celebrate in a warm place," said Betty Jean Grant, Erie County Democratic Committee Vice-Chair.
"Of course, as you know, he's the first African American president. We're all very proud of him and I just wanted to show my support for him. For the job he's done and for the job he has ahead of him," said Buffalo resident Bernie Tolbert.
As the President addressed the nation, his supporters said they were filled with emotion. Those at the watch party said it's an event that truly symbolizes democracy and equality."
"To see it unfold the way it's unfolding, I'm glad I can see it in my life time," explained Herring.
Obama's address laid out his vision for the next four years. Some said that while he's achieved much for this nation, he still has a lot of work to do.
"He definitely needs to focus on creating more jobs and lowering our economic debt right now," explained Chris Chimera from Buffalo.
Grant expressed, "I think this second term will focus on actually accomplishing a lot of things. First term, you know the former health care that was passed, that was certainly good. But I think the second term really needs to be focused on the economy and jobs. I think he'll do that."
Many said that under Obama, our nation can continue to unite and uphold the promises of America.
"I think it's a good day for not just Democrats, I think it's a good day for everybody," Tolbert exclaimed.
