Chautauqua County Legislature votes to put County Home back up for bid

By: YNN Staff

MAYVILLE, N.Y. — There was a lot of debate Wednesday evening, with some citizens expressing concern for family members in the home.

Some legislators questioned the experience of the bidder, Avi Rothner, who owns nursing facilities in several states. However, others say the home is a drain on the system and must be privatized.

Ultimately, legislators voted to put the home back up for bid and not sell it to Rothner.

County Executive Greg Edwards is encouraged that the legislators voted to not sell the home. However he wishes a decision was made Wednesday because time is of the essence.

"What concerns me is that a 30-day delay, until next month's meeting, is another $250,000 that we lose at the county home," Edwards said.

He plans to contact the marketing firm Thursday to inform them of the legislature's decision.
Edwards says it could go up for another vote by next month.
